The Watercolor Goddess

In the recent years, I've been trying to make a mark in the digital art community by sharing my work on instagram. Currently, my only tools for digital art are my Galaxy Note 8 and the stylus it comes with. But I don't let the small screen and stylus stop me from being creative! Of all my projects on instagram, this project series was one of the more successful ones with a combined total of 108 likes.

I call them my Watercolor Goddesses.
THE BEGINNING

Before I began digital painting, my goal was to push myself as an artist to capture some difficult poses. Using models online (thanks to google images), I was able to free hand rough sketches of the poses I wanted to capture. From there, I wanted to further challenge myself by using just one color.

I wanted each of my goddesses to feel mystical, powerful, and independent. Each representing different elements in their own way: The Blue goddess represents the ocean, the Golden goddess represents the sun, the Lavender goddess represents night, and the Rosé goddess represents fire.
THE PROCESS

Each goddess was created on my Note8 Galaxy phone using an app called Autodesk Sketchbook.

First, using a model as a reference, I would create a rough sketch outline. From there, I would continuously layer, from light to dark, the chosen color with the app's watercolor brushes. Once I was satisfied with the image, I would go back in to add in hair, texture, and highlights.

Check out my instagram to see a video upload of how I created the Lavender Goddess.
CHALLENGES

As previously mentioned, I took on this project to push myself to become a better artist. However, I did not expect it to be as challenging as it was. One of the biggest challenges was drawing on my Note8. It prevented me from being as detailed as I wanted to.

Another challenge for me was their feet! It was surprisingly difficult for me to draw their feet especially the toes.
RESULTS

This little four-part instagram series made a significant impact on my instagram account. Together, they accumulated 108 likes and helped me obtain an additional five followers. Here are the individual breakdowns for each goddess:

Blue: 30 Likes, 1 Comment
Gold: 22 Likes, 0 Comments
Lavender: 30 Likes, 1 Comment
Rose: 26 Likes, 2 Comments

For my small instagram account, I was very pleased with the level of interaction and amount of likes.
